The KRW 65,000 assorted sashimi platter.
Quick verdict
Namttori (남또리횟집) is a clean, open-kitchen seafood restaurant serving hoe (Korean-style sashimi), about a 1-minute walk from Dyne Oceano Hotel (also romanized Dain Oceano) in Aewol, Jeju. The KRW 65,000 assorted sashimi mixes familiar fish with Jeju specialties like mackerel, silver cutlassfish and ttaksaeu (a Jeju shrimp). We had to wait 30 minutes, but the food, the space and the friendly service made up for it.

Where to eat in Aewol at night: getting a table
On the first night of our Jeju trip, my partner and I had black pork near the hotel, so on the second night we had promised ourselves fresh seafood. Looking around the area near our hotel, we found Namttori, which already had plenty of reviews as a go-to restaurant for Dyne Oceano Hotel guests. It was within walking distance and had good review ratings.
Unfortunately, it filled up right as we arrived, and we ended up with a 30-minute wait. (I normally never wait more than 10 minutes, however good a place is.) But at that time of night there was no good alternative to move to along the Aewol coastal road. What really kept us there was how clean the dining room looked from outside and how neatly the dishes were plated.
Even though the restaurant was busy, the staff were very friendly, so the wait was pleasant.
Inside this Jeju sashimi restaurant: open kitchen, clean and calm
When you picture a seaside sashimi restaurant in Aewol, you might imagine noise, rough tables covered in layers of plastic, and a slightly messy interior. Namttori breaks that pattern. From the moment we walked in, it felt neat and polished, more like an upscale Japanese restaurant in the city.
- Open kitchen: right at the entrance, the kitchen and the area where the fish is sliced are fully open. You can watch the chefs handle the fish in a clean environment. The fish we could see looked very fresh.
- Window seats: there is an ocean view over the coastal road from the window seats. We came late after sunset, though, so it was pitch dark and we could not really see the sea.
- Atmosphere: calm and refined, so the darkness outside did not take anything away from the meal.

Jeju mackerel sashimi, cutlassfish and maeuntang
We ordered Namttori’s signature assorted sashimi (modeumhoe) without much thought. The platter was colorful and varied, and well worth the 30-minute wait.
Familiar fish
- Tuna, flatfish (gwangeo) and salmon: popular, easy-to-like fish that form a solid base
Jeju specialties
- Mackerel sashimi: rich and savory, with no fishy smell
- Silver cutlassfish sashimi: shiny and silver, with a chewy texture
- Ttaksaeu sashimi (a Jeju shrimp): sweet and rich
The balance of familiar and special fish on one plate was excellent. The thickness and freshness of each slice were very good, and the portion was generous enough for two adults sharing a bottle of soju.
Maeuntang (spicy fish stew): when we were fairly full, the maeuntang arrived to finish the meal. The broth was clear and clean, without a heavy, artificial-seasoning taste. It was spicy but finished cleanly. It came with basic side dishes. (Whether the maeuntang is included in the platter price was not confirmed in our visit.)

The walk back to the hotel
With Godokan black pork on the first night and Namttori on the second, the restaurants around Dyne Oceano gave us two hits in a row. Being able to enjoy a meal like this right next to the hotel, without worrying about a designated driver or a taxi, is a big plus. After dinner, the short walk back to the hotel, smelling the sea at night, became one of the nicer memories of the trip.
